A Five-Decade Battle for a Place to Call Home
San Francisco, 1915. The story opens with a young man slipping aboard a suspicious ship under cover of night.
And so begins the story of Makoto Daito—a teenager born to an American father and a Japanese mother.
Labeled an outcast for his appearance, Makoto sinks further into isolation with the untimely passing of his parents. He decides to move to Japan, his mother’s homeland, in hope of a better life.
If America held no place for him, then surely Japan would.
With nothing to his name, a fateful encounter aboard the ship sets Makoto’s life on a path that will change everything.
What awaits Makoto in Japan? And where will his long journey ultimately lead him?

1929
Kure, Hiroshima, home to Japan’s largest naval shipyard, under strong influence of organized crime.
1943
Osaka, Minami, western Japan’s largest entertainment district, set against a backdrop of rising global tensions.
1951
Atami, Shizuoka, a postwar hotspot that became synonymous with tourism in Japan.
1965
Shinjuku, Tokyo, one of Japan’s most iconic entertainment districts to this day. A city alive with chaos and energy.
Combat System
Satisfyingly Gritty Combat
Experience an age where survival was everything.
The combat system brings the raw, visceral brutality of street fighting across a series of turbulent eras to life.
Play as Makoto, taking full control of his right and left arms to seamlessly shift between offense and defense. Chain quick jabs into devastating strikes, send enemies flying with charged attacks, then rush in to tackle them to the ground, following up with a barrage while they’re vulnerable.
Catch enemy attacks with one hand and counter instantly, reading their movements to create decisive openings.
Wield and upgrade a wide variety of weapons—knives, hammers, swords, and more—as you take on the hardened fighters of each era.
Show Business
Makoto Daito: Another Promoter’s Story
The mentor who taught Makoto how to survive in Japan recognizes his musical talent, propelling him not only onto the stage, but into the world of entertainment as a showman.
To put on larger-than-life spectaculars, Makoto follows rumors on the streets to seek out talented singers and musicians. He then heads into the city, taking inspiration from the sounds of brooms, trains, snoring, animals, and even all-out brawls to create original songs.
He brings each show to life by curating the setlist, assembling the band, and assigning performers, while refining the production with elements like lighting. Take the show on the road, win over audiences across the country, and witness Makoto’s rise to success.
