Singer/songwriter mekakushe’s song “Watashi Dake no Polaris” (My One and Only Polaris), which was used in Episode 7 of the TV anime series Kowloon Generic Romance, was released online on May 18.
The super-popular mystery/romance series is based on Jun Mayuzuki (of After the Rain fame)’s latest work, which has sold more than 1.4 million copies.
Following in the footsteps of the ending theme, “Koi no Retronym” (Retronym of Love), mekakushe and Ryohei Sakata (Hifumi Inc.) have created a light and lively rhythm that almost seems to skip along. The end result is a vibrant, heartfelt pop number that’s bursting with colorful stars.

Mekakushe’s Comment
This song is meant to be a kind of good luck charm. Just like the stars at night, songs can have a distant feeling to them because of how brightly they shine. So, I wrote “Watashi Dake no Polaris” with those thoughts in mind. Even on days when they’re hidden behind the clouds, stars still twinkle with the same intensity. I always want to stare at the special person right beside me, because their brilliant light means I’ll never feel alone!
