Feature Deep Dive: Enhanced Match Engine

– Every Match Becomes a More Intense Tactical Battle

FM27 adds new layers of depth and influence to the Match Engine with improvements to player movement and the introduction of the brand-new Tactical Tweaks system. Every match now feels like more of a tactical battle.

• Better Movement, Better Results

In addition to improved player models and body types, FM27 enhances the way players move, shift and react on the pitch. Building on a multi-year partnership with Hawk-Eye Innovations, a greater variety of on and off the ball animations makes it even more rewarding to see your tactics take shape on the pitch.

Combining Hawk-Eye clips from real-life matches with motion capture has introduced a raft of new skill moves, including body feints, Elasticos and Heel Chops. These moves and wider improvements to dribbling give your attacking players more weapons for taking on their opponent. Players with higher Flair and Dribbling attributes showcase more personality, with more creative and consistent attacks.

• More Realistic Speed of Movement

Using Hawk-Eye Innovations data, the systems inside the engine have been completely overhauled, giving matches a more authentic speed and tempo.

Targeted improvements have also been made to how much players can run during a match before getting tired. When your Wing-Back drives forward a long distance to join the attack, you’ll see their physical exertion visibly reflected as they try to catch their breath. Stamina now has a greater impact on a player’s ability to cover ground and make repeated sprints with less recovery time, as well as on how their condition deteriorates over the course of 90 minutes, meaning substitutes can have a greater impact on results.

• Shouts, Rebuilt

Tactical Tweaks work in tandem with Shouts, which give your players an immediate, emotional directive, whether it’s tough love or praise for their hard work. Shouts have been rebuilt for FM27, with an overhaul to the way they impact your players, directly affecting their mental state rather than simply applying minor attribute boosts.

You will also get better feedback on the outcome of a shout. Your staff will give you a summary of its effect on the team in the dugout feed, while the squad bar will animate to highlight the moment a shout is communicated to the players and the resulting body language change. Look out for greater individuality in player reactions based on their personality types and the game context.

• Tactical Tweaks from the Touchline

The brand-new Tactical Tweaks system brings a new level of influence directly from the touchline. Inspired by real conversations with contacts in the professional game, it lets you make team and individual-level tactical decisions based on the match playing out in front of you, without having to go to the Tactics Screen.

At an individual level, your wingers can swap sides at the touch of a button, or you can send your ‘keeper up for a last-gasp attack when you need an equaliser. For your team, you can instantly ask your players to play with more urgency, go longer with the passes, exploit width or reduce the press. Tweaks stay active as long as you want them to, with no cap on how many you can have, and your staff will advise you on the best time to use or stop using one. Tweaks empower you to react directly to changes from your opposition manager in real time, making matches feel less passive.
