Sakura Index Interviews is a new feature to the website. We shall be interviewing a handful of notable names in Japan as well as others.
Our first subject for Sakura Index Interviews is none other than the singer named ‘TRUE’. She celebrated her 10th Anniversary debut last year. We had the opportunity to send our interview questions to TRUE a few weeks back.
We wish to note that these questions were sent in before her big tour this month (May) and her upcoming tour in June. Check out our interview below as Sakura Index Interviews our first guest…TRUE!
SAKURA INDEX INTERVIEWS: TRUE
Q: We heard you will be doing a Hall Live tour in May at Osaka, Sendai, and Tokyo. How excited are you to perform in these venues as part of your TRUE Live Tour PLAY! vol.1 -ReCoda-?
TRUE: I can’t wait! For the first live show of my 11th year, I’ll be doing my very first hall tour. I feel like I received so many gifts and warm congratulations for my 10th anniversary, and so many people came out to celebrate with me at my shows. I’m going to use all that support as fuel to make each live performance a success from this 11th year onward, which will help me grow even more. It’s not exactly going back to my roots, but I’m planning to perform with the same band lineup as my very first live, carefully arranging each song to deliver it thoughtfully.
In June, I’ll also be holding my first-ever Asia tour. It’s a new challenge to see how much I can convey beyond borders and language barriers. I’ll do my best!
Q: Last year saw your 10th debut anniversary as TRUE. What is next for TRUE and your music in the next decade?
TRUE: The most important thing is probably to keep going. I love live venues. People who have lived completely different lives come together in one place simply because they like the same music and the same artist. I love that live venues are places where many different lives intersect. I want to protect these places, and I believe the fans want that too.

Q: Of all the Anime OP tracks you produced, which ones are your personal favorites? Maybe your top 3 favorite OPs.
TRUE: I’m often asked this, but it’s really hard to answer. That’s because, for me, every song is number one. However, when it comes to songs that are especially popular with overseas fans, I think of Violet Evergarden, Sound! Euphonium, and That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. So, for an answer, how about their respective theme songs? Sincerely, DREAM SOLISTER, and Storyteller.
Q: What is your favorite song outside of your own works?
TRUE: There are so many that it’s hard to pick just one! I’d love to hear what your favorite songs are. What kinds of Japanese anime songs are popular in your area right now?
Q: What do you feel is the most defining moment of your career?
TRUE: It would have to be my encounter with Violet Evergarden. She shaped my life. I think the whole reason I’m being interviewed by overseas media like this is because of Violet.
Q: In your opinion, what is the Soul of a Musician?
TRUE: I think it’s being a fan, isn’t it? Loving what you love with all your heart.
Q: What do you do, in case of a slump? (feeling down and/or writer’s block)
TRUE: I like to change things up—watch a completely different anime or movie, or meet up with friends. Since camping is my hobby, I also recharge by spending time in nature. Refreshing myself like this naturally brings new inspiration.
