HATSUNE MIKU: COLORFUL STAGE! is a well-known mobile game. The game’s setting revolves around Shibuya, a street where music thrives alongside vibrant subcultures, and a mysterious space called “SEKAI,” which reflects people’s “true feelings”. It depicts how virtual singers like Hatsune Miku help young boys and girls discover their “true feelings and sing songs that truly belong to them.
COLORFUL STAGE! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing, produced by animation studio P.A.WORKS as a fully original work, tells the story of a new Hatsune Miku—never before seen in the game—who grows through her encounters with the characters from the six groups below that bring you the most dazzling and captivating singing stage in this film:

In 2007, Hatsune Miku burst onto the scene with the second generation of the voice synthesis software VOCALOID, becoming the inspiration for countless online musicians. She, along with other virtual singers from the VOCALOID family, inspired a string of iconic songs, such as “Senbonzakura”, which was performed at Japan’s Kohaku Uta Gassen, and “DUNE”, composed by singer-songwriter Kenshi Yonezu under his former alias Hachi to celebrate Miku’s 10th anniversary. Hatsune Miku’s influence continues to shape Japan’s pop music scene to this day. Ayase, a member of the popular J-POP duo YOASOBI, once said in an NHK interview, “Without VOCALOID, there wouldn’t be the me of today,” emphasizing Miku’s pivotal role in his creative journey. Another superstar, Ado, is also a huge Miku fan. Last year, the two songstresses collaborated on the dreamy track “Sakura Biyori and Time Machine with Hatsune Miku”, which even gave Miku the chance to perform “live” at Japan National Stadium.
“Hatsune” — the first sound; “Miku” — a future full of endless possibilities. In this film, the virtual songstress takes on yet another “first,” showcasing a fresh, never-before-seen side of herself on the big screen.
Synopsis:
“Please tell me about yourself. Maybe then I’ll know how to sing.”
Hoshino Ichika unexpectedly hears a song sung by Hatsune Miku at a record store, a song she had never heard before. As she wonders about it, she notices a screen showing an unfamiliar “Hatsune Miku.” Shocked, she exclaims, “Miku!?” Startled by Ichika’s shout, Miku makes eye contact with her but quickly disappears.
After a street performance a few days later, the same Miku suddenly appears on Ichika’s phone. Looking somewhat despondent, Miku shares her story with Ichika, revealing her wish to convey her songs to certain people. However, no matter how much she sings, her voice never seems to reach them.
During the recent concert, Miku saw Ichika touching many hearts with her voice. It gave Miku hope that by understanding Ichika, she might also be able to transmit her voice to others. Summoning her courage, she approaches Ichika. Ichika smiles in response to her request and says, “If I can help in any way,” readily agreeing to assist her. Thus begins the new story of Hatsune Miku and the teenagers.
